Be careful to not touch any electrical connectors and make sure that you are grounded so no electrical static discharge can hurt electronic parts. I wouldn't put more than about 75psi in the line. After all this, I use the air hose to blow out the dust from mother board, and the internal fans and the power supply and the DVD drives if present and a good blast of air all over the outside surface of the mac pro part of the case that has holes.

Do not touch the motherboard or any sensitive electrical parts with the actual air blaster - just the force of the compressed air will be enough to dislodge the dust and cobwebs. If this sounds too difficult it really isn't take to a Apple service place and let them do it once and watch carefully what they do, and you can repeat the process from then on. Or have a friend who knows about electronic issues like static discharge prevention help you.

It's a great tool for monitoring hardware status of system -everything from fan speeds to temperatures of all cores and GPU and every sensor in the case there are a lot of them by the way , to power supply voltages and currents and just about everything you could imagine. I have nothing to do with the company - just have used the program for many years when I got my first Mac Pro system in about You can't get it on App Store - you have to get it from their web site link above.

The guy that developed it is a PhD in Germany and really knows a lot about Mac hardware and has been developing Mac software for a long time. He gives great tech support and is always quick with an answer if it's possible.

Can't say enough about how much I respect and admire the software he writes and his helpful attitude. There have been a fair number of older Mac Pro systems on Craigslist lately for very good prices. He was gonna sell just the parts on eBay, but I talked him into selling the entire system. Keep you eye peeled and hope you come up with something you can use. Don't forget to make part of the deal that it has to work in your system as part of the sale - no point in getting spare or extra parts if they don't work in your system.

Also meant to tell you to check out if there is a local Mac User Group in your area. These are great resources and often there is someone else there who has run into the same issue as you and can give you some great advice. Apr 17, 5: So much appreciate! Yup, it's really clear enough and I would like to give it a "blow" haha.

Just to ensure: Don't forget to do this outside as if your system is really dusty this might generate a lot of dust and crud that is better off outside than inside. Your girlfriend or wife or roommate will be very upset if you make a big mess inside. Don't forget to remove the DVD enclosure case so that you can get at both the front and back of the power supply. You can't always blow from inside to outside as you want to get the air stream as close as possible to the surface that has the dust on it in order to remove it as completely as possible.

You will go back and forth from inside blowing out to outside blowing in - over and over and over. Keep blowing till you don't see any more dust getting moved around. Don't forget to blow right at the motherboard and carefully go over as much area as you can reach. The dust gets everywhere so do as thorough a job as possible. Dust is your enemy as it prevents heat exchanging from the hot electronics to the air flowing by that is created by the internal fans.

Do the same with each of the cards by laying them on a towel or something soft and non-conductive and then blowing all the dust from the top and all four sides and then turn over and repeat. The fans on the graphics cards are also very good at collecting dust so give them lots of attention during this spring cleaning. Some people do this with a air source in one hand and a vacuum hose in the other.

Static discharge - like when you walk across a carpet and touch something metallic or electrically conductive and you hear and feel a high-voltage spark fly from you to the other object. This spark can be thousands of volts and can do serious damage to sensitive electrical parts like circuit boards and processors and memory cards, etc. Don't ever touch the golden or copper colored etchings on a circuit board or the silver solder and trace etches. Always handle circuit cards by the non-conductive edges - never by the copper etchings or silver traces on the card.

And don't drop anything while you're holding it if you need to. Electronics don't tolerate being dropped very well at all.

You can use a grounded "wrist strap" to help you from building up any static electricity. Do a YouTube search to see some videos about using grounding wrist straps. Again, if you've never done this sort of stuff, I really would encourage seeing someone else do this in person before doing it yourself. Mistakes can be very costly and it only takes one to ruin your day. Maybe there is a university or technical trade school near you that you could ask if they do this sort of thing and you could watch while they do it?

Buy em a cup of coffee or lunch for letting you watch them and ask questions. There is no right or wrong way on how to do this other than the cautions about what not to touch and drop , just be careful and be thorough and be prepared with what you will need during the cleanup process. I just watched a guy on YouTube dunk his CPU tray in a or model Mac Pro in a tub of water as he claimed that is a good way to get out the last of the really tiny dust particles. I would never have the courage to do that, as would be afraid there might be a tiny bit of water that didn't completely dry and would short out some electronics components when the system is assembled and powered back on.
